SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Saturday marked wins number 19 and 20 for
the Susquehanna women's volleyball team as the Crusaders
defeated Landmark Conference opponents Scranton and Goucher on the
first round robin weekend of the season.
SU (20-4, 2-0) defeated Scranton in three sets, 25-21, 25-19,
25-13 and followed that with another 3-0 win over Goucher (25-10,
25-16, 25-10) in the nightcap.
Against Scranton, Jessica Holm (Montvale, N.J./Pascack
Hills) led the squad with eight kills and hit for a .273
attack percentage. Maggie O'Hearn (Mountville,
Pa./Hempfield) finished with 27 assists and four digs
while Sarah Paluck (Nesquehoning, Pa./Tamaqua
Area) notched a match-high 29 digs. Hayley Dunkel
(Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville Area) chipped in five kills,
two service aces, two digs and three block assists. As a team, SU
recorded 10 blocks assists against the Royals.
In the stand-alone match at 6 p.m., Susquehanna again made quick
work of its opponent with a 3-0 win over the Gophers. Dunkel racked
up 11 kills and hit for a .688 attack percentage.
Erin Byrne (San Diego, Calif./Scripps
Ranch) tallied eight kills, eight assists, three service
aces and four digs for a solid all-around effort and Paluck chipped
in 24 more digs to bring her total for the day to 53. O'Hearn
again led the team with 21 assists and also added 11 digs for a
double-double.
As a team, SU hit .366 against Goucher and added 13 service
aces.
The Crusaders now take a trip out to the West Coast for three
games, beginning Oct. 12 with matches against Pomona-Pitzer and
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
