HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Playing the first of two important
Landmark Conference games this week, Susquehanna field hockey fell
at Juniata 1-0 on Wednesday afternoon.
The Crusaders (6-7, 0-3 Landmark) received solid play from
senior netminder Margaret Ruth (Lewisberry, Pa. /
Northern) who recorded 10 saves but unfortunately the SU
offense could not put a shot past Juniata's goalkeeper.
The first half was scoreless as the Eagles (6-7, 2-0 Landmark)
outshot SU by a 6-2 margin and held an edge in penalty corners,
4-3.
The scored remained unchanged well into the second half, but in
the 56th minute Juniata's Rachel
Weigel knocked in a rebound for her first goal of the
season to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead with less than 15 minutes
remaining in regulation.
The Crusaders' attack was only able to fire off one more
shot for the rest of the contest as Juniata held on for the crucial
conference win.
For the game, SU was outshot 13-6 with sophomore
Katherine Millett (Auburn, Maine / North Yarmouth
Academy) leading the offense with two shots.
The Crusaders remain in conference play, heading to Catholic on
Saturday at 1 p.m.
