Field Hockey Drops Critical Conference Game at Juniata

Box Score

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Playing the first of two important Landmark Conference games this week, Susquehanna field hockey fell at Juniata 1-0 on Wednesday afternoon.

The Crusaders (6-7, 0-3 Landmark) received solid play from senior netminder Margaret Ruth (Lewisberry, Pa. / Northern) who recorded 10 saves but unfortunately the SU offense could not put a shot past Juniata's goalkeeper.

The first half was scoreless as the Eagles (6-7, 2-0 Landmark) outshot SU by a 6-2 margin and held an edge in penalty corners, 4-3.

The scored remained unchanged well into the second half, but in the 56th minute Juniata's Rachel Weigel knocked in a rebound for her first goal of the season to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead with less than 15 minutes remaining in regulation.

The Crusaders' attack was only able to fire off one more shot for the rest of the contest as Juniata held on for the crucial conference win.

For the game, SU was outshot 13-6 with sophomore Katherine Millett (Auburn, Maine / North Yarmouth Academy) leading the offense with two shots.

The Crusaders remain in conference play, heading to Catholic on Saturday at 1 p.m.
