CARLISLE, Pa. – Back in the NCAA Tournament for the
second-straight year, the Susquehanna men's soccer team saw
its postseason run end with a 2-0 loss at Dickinson in the opening
round of the tournament.
The Crusaders (13-6-1) finished the season having won back-to-back
Landmark Conference titles for the first time in program history
and finished with double-digit wins for the second-straight
season.
Nick Fecci (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant)
and Patrick Fry (Denver, Colo./Colorado Academy)
led the team with three shots apiece and were two of five SU
players to take multiple shots in the game. Senior goalie
Matt Salsman (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area)
came up with three saves against the Red Devils (14-5-1).
The first half passed without a goal although SU took nine shots
to Dickinson's four, including five over the final 10 minutes
of the half. Salsman finished with two saves over the first 45
minutes to help keep it a 0-0 game at halftime.
Just over five minutes into the second half, the Red Devils broke
that scoreless tie with a goal in the 51st minutes to go
up 1-0. The Crusaders kept attacking, though, and in the
72nd and 73rd minutes, Fecci fired off two
shots over a 50-second span but both were saved by Dickinson goalie
Jeremy Palcan.
The Red Devils were able to tack on an insurance goal with 10:06
to play for a two-goal advantage. Andrew
Hayes (Hoboken, N.J./St. Peter's Prep) fired
off a shot in the 88th minute but Palcan came up with
another save in what marked SU's final scoring chance of the
evening.
