SELINSGROVE, Pa. – A 46-point scoring outburst in the second half could not propel the Susquehanna men's basketball team to a win over USMMA in the 2012-13 season finale as SU fell 79-73 on Senior Day.

The Crusaders cut what had been a 16-point Mariners' lead to just two points with 1:35 to play but could not complete the comeback.

Senior Harvey Pannell (Bloomfield, Conn./St. Thomas Moore) and freshman Brandon Hedley (Silver Spring, Md./Salisbury Prep) led the team with 15 points apiece with all 15 of Hedley's points coming from beyond the arc. Freshman Josh Miller (Strasburg, Pa./Lampeter Strasburg) added 12 points and a team-high five rebounds.

The Mariners (14-11, 7-7) shot better than 46 percent from the floor while holding Susquehanna (9-16, 5-9) to a 37 percent clip. USMMA also sank 45.5 percent of its three point attempts.

SU jumped out to an early, 6-0 lead on a Pannell three at the 15:26 mark that made it 13-7. A Harley Sellinger (Mill Hall, Pa./Central Mountain) layup just over a minute later kept the Crusaders ahead by six (15-9).

USMMA was able to tie the game at 19 on a Preston Padgett three-pointer with 8:46 on the clock. For the next several possessions the lead swapped sides until the Mariners scored the final five points of the half to go into the locker room up 31-27.

SU fell behind by double digits (43-33) less than four minutes into the second half and the Mariners bumped that lead to 16 (53-37) on a Reed Buck trey at the 13:19 mark.

With 7:24 to play it remained a 14-point contest at 67-53 until a 7-0 Crusader run quickly cut the lead to seven (67-60) with 4:35 still to play.

Hedley sank his final three of the evening to get his squad within just two of the lead at 73-71 but USMMA scored six of the final eight points of the game to seal the win.
