WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Susquehanna men's lacrosse
offense was held to just five goals in its Saturday matchup
afternoon matchup at King's and they weren't enough for
a win as the Monarchs took down SU 10-5.
The Crusaders (1-2) scored just one first-half goal and their four
goals over the final 30 minutes of action were not enough to come
from behind for a win.
Five different players accounted for SU's goals.
Ryan Natusch (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) scored
one of those goals and also added an assist for the only
multi-point performance for Susquehanna. Brian Sowyrda
(Grafton, Mass./Grafton) forced four King's
turnovers while Kade MacGregor (Centreville, Md./Queen
Anne's County) had three caused turnovers and a
team-high seven ground balls.
Goalie Will Torrence (Wallingford, Pa./Strath
Haven) played all but the final three minutes of the game
and recorded six saves.
Susquehanna actually out-shot King's (2-0) by a 30-27 margin
and forced 26 Monarch's turnovers while committing just 18 of
its own, but King's was able to make its shots count in the
form of 10 goals, six of which came in the second half.
The Monarchs scored the first three goals of the game before
Marcus Cheatham (Reisterstown, Md./Loyola) was
able to break that streak on an unassisted goal with 2:27 left in
the opening quarter.
King's Lenny Fox scored the one and only goal of the second
quarter and his team took a 4-1 advantage at halftime with the lead
still easily within reach for the Crusaders.
The first four goals of the third quarter were all scored by the
Monarchs as they took a seven-goal lead (8-1) with a little less
than 22 minutes remaining in the game.
Tylere Fritts (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) and
Austen Lein (New Vernon, N.J./Madison) scored
back-to-back goals to end the third quarter that made it 8-3 and
Natusch scored the opening goal of the final quarter to cut
King's lead to four (8-4). However, the Monarchs scored two
of the final three goals of the game to put the contest away.
Susquehanna returns to the field on Tuesday to host Hood at 7
p.m.
