Men's Lacrosse Picks Up Fifth Win in Six Games

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna men's lacrosse team used a six-goal first half to fend off Messiah and win 10-4 on Wednesday night at Sassafras Field.

Austen Lein (New Vernon, N.J./Madison) finished with a five-point night with three goals and two assists for Susquehanna (6-3). Carmen Raroha (Voorhees, N.J./Bishop Eustace) added two goals for an SU team that out-shot Messiah 35-21, won 11-of-17 face-offs and forced 23 Falcons turnovers (2-4).

Goalie Jared Knowlton (North Salem, N.J./Kent School) played all but the final 1:37 of the game and racked up seven saves while surrendering only three goals. Brian Sowyrda (Grafton, Mass./Grafton) led the defense with four caused turnovers and three ground balls.

The first two quarters were all SU as the Crusaders put up six unanswered goals. Lein accounted for three of those scores, including the final one of the second quarter that made it 6-0 at the midway point of the game.

Susquehanna scored its seventh and eighth unanswered goals of the game at the 11:13 and 4:02 marks of the third quarter to go up 8-0. Messiah failed to get on the scoreboard until there was 1:28 left in the third quarter when Heath Kupecky scored to make it 8-1.

The Falcons scored three of the five goals in the fourth and final quarter but never got closer than the final score of 10-4.

The Crusaders remain at home to host Landmark Conference foe USMMA on Saturday at 2 p.m.
