SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Six goals in the six first minutes added
up to a fast start for the No. 13 Susquehanna women's
lacrosse team and to an eventual 19-6 win over visiting Lycoming on
Wednesday afternoon.
Among the game's many highlights was junior Emma
Ehler's (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) six-goal
performance, the last of which marked the 100th career
goal of her career as a Crusader.
The win improves SU's record to 8-0 on the season and the
Crusaders have now held back-to-back opponents to nine goals or
less in three-straight games.
Ehler was one of five Susquehanna players with multi-goal
performances. Meredith Crane (Maplewood,
N.J./Columbia) added two goals and one assist while
Michelle McGinniss (Randolph, N.J./Randolph)
finished with a hat trick in addition to her four draw
controls.
SU finished with a 36-14 edge in shots over the Warriors (2-4) and
had converted on 3-of-6 free position shots. Lycoming had just four
shots in the first half and only three on goal all game.
Ehler struck three times in the opening five-plus minutes of the
game to help put the Crusaders ahead 6-0 with 24:50 still to play
in the half. That lead ballooned to 14-0 as a total of six
different Susquehanna players scored in the half. By the time the
half wound down, Susquehanna led 15-1 after an Ehler score capped
off the first-half scoring.
It took Ehler just 4:20 to score the first goal of the second half
and the 100th of her SU career, putting the Crusaders
ahead 1-61. The Warriors were able to score three unanswered goals
to make it a16-4 game but Susquehanna scored three of the final
five goals of the half en route to the 13-goal victory.
The Crusaders hit the road to face McDaniel on Saturday at 1
p.m.
