SELINSGROVE, Pa. – A 10-5 home win on Saturday for the
Susquehanna men's lacrosse team kept the team undefeated at
home as well as 2-0 in Landmark Conference play.
The Crusaders (7-3, 2-0) have now won three games in a row as well
as three-straight over the Mariners (4-3, 1-1).
Goalie Will Torrence (Wallingford, Pa./Strath
Haven) had a huge game in net for Susquehanna. He racked
up 14 saves with eight in the second half. Torrence and the
Crusader defense helped limit the Mariners to only five goals that
included a scoreless first quarter.
SU edged USMMA in most categories, including shots (44-38) and
ground balls (28-24) and split face-offs with nine wins for each
side.
John Kerrigan (Maple Glen, Pa./La Salle College
HS) netted three goals while Austen Lein (New
Vernon, N.J./Madison) added two goals and a game-high
three assists. They were just two of six players with multi-point
games for Susquehanna.
Kerrigan opened the game with back-to-back goals for a 2-0 SU lead
and Ryan Natusch (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand)
ended the first-quarter scoring with his lone goal of the game for
3-0 score.
USMMA took just 49 seconds into the second quarter to find the back
of the net to make it 3-1 but the Crusaders closed out the quarter
by scoring four of the final five goals including a Kerrigan man-up
goal with 1:53 on the clock that made it 7-2.
Both teams added two goals apiece in the third quarter to keep it a
five-goal game (9-4) heading into the final 15 minutes of
action.
USMMA scored the first goal of the final quarter to get within four
of the lead (9-5) but Tylere Fritts (Chatham,
N.J./Chatham) added an insurance goal with 7:59 to play
that marked the final goal of the game and preserved SU's
10-5 victory.
SU hits the road on March 29 to face Goucher at 4 p.m.
