SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The No. 11 Susquehanna women's
lacrosse team picked up its 10th win of the season on
Thursday evening in the form of a 14-4 victory over visiting Drew
in what marked the teams' Landmark Conference opener.
The Crusaders (10-0, 1-0) led from start to finish and were aided
by a 10-goal first half as well as a defense that did not allow a
goal until 37 minutes into the action.
Annie McElaney (Natick, Mass./Natick) led all
scorers with five goals while Michelle McGinniss (Randolph,
N.J./Randolph) and Emma Ehler (Chatham,
N.J./Chatham) netted three goals apiece. In total, six
different players scored in the game while eight players finished
with at least one point.
McGinniss led all players with 10 draw controls while Emma
Jones (Wolfeboro, N.H./Brewster Academy) and McGinniss
picked up five ground balls each with Jones also causing three
turnovers. Goalie Emily Stankaitis (Honeoye Falls,
N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) finished with five saves.
As a team, SU out-shot Drew (4-5, 0-1) by a 40-21 margin and won 15
of 20 draw controls.
While the Crusaders' defense was busy holding Drew without a
single goal for the first half, Susquehanna's offense
proceeded to net 10 goals over the first 30 minutes, including two
within the first 70 seconds of action.
After just 11 minutes of play, SU found itself ahead 7-0 before
going the next 16 minutes without a goal. However, the Crusaders
were able to add three goals in the final 3:12 of the half to take
a 10-0 lead at the midway point of the game.
Ehler came out of halftime and scored her third goal of the game at
the 27:35 mark for an 11-0 SU lead. Drew got on the board for the
first time all night four minutes later before the Crusaders strung
together three unanswered goals for a 13-goal advantage (14-1).
The Rangers did score the final three goals of the game but still
lost by a 10-goal margin, 14-4.
SU returns to action on April 8 with a 4 p.m. road game at
Elizabethtown.
