TOWSON, Md. – The Susquehanna men's lacrosse team could
not come up with enough offense to defeat Goucher, falling 10-2 on
Friday evening in Towson despite holding the Gophers to just three
second-half scores.
SU (7-4, 2-1) suffered its first Landmark Conference loss of the
season while also seeing its three-game win streak come to an
end.
Greg Rabiecki (Maplewood, N.J./St. Peter's
Prep) and John Kerrigan (Maple Glen, Pa./La Salle
College HS) provided the only offense for a team that was
out-shot by a 37-22 margin and won only three of 16 face-offs.
Will Torrence (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) got
the start in goal and played 52-plus minutes over two different
stints in the game. He finished with 13 saves.
Goucher (4-6, 3-0) was able to put two goals on the scoreboard
within the first five minutes of play and ultimately headed into
the second quarter with a 2-0 lead.
The game was really decided in the second quarter when the Gophers
broke out for five goals while preventing the Crusaders from
finding the back of the net themselves. The final score of the half
came with 1:12 on the clock and made it a 7-0 game at halftime.
Two-and-a-half minutes into the third quarter, Kerrigan finally got
SU on the board with a goal off an Austen Lein (New Vernon,
N.J./Madison) assist to make it 7-1. Unfortunately Goucher
countered with another goal to keep it a seven-goal margin
(8-1).
Goucher netted two of the three fourth-quarter goals with
Rabiecki's score – the first of his collegiate career
– sandwiched between two Gopher goals for the final score of
10-2.
The Crusaders return home on Aug. 6 to host conference opponent
Washington & Jefferson at 1 p.m.
