SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna men's lacrosse team
scored six first-half goals en route to a 7-2 win over visiting
Hood on Tuesday night, thus leveling the team's record to 2-2
on the young season.
A six-goal first half got the game started on a high note for the
Crusaders and John Kerrigan (Maple Glen, Pa./La Salle
College HS) accounted for three of Susquehanna's
seven goals in the game. Four other players each netted one goal
apiece for SU (2-2) which out-shot Hood (1-4) by a 36-24
margin.
Starting goalie Jared Knowlton (North Salem, N.J./Kent
School) played just under 58 minutes of the game and
racked up 10 saves while allowing just two goals all night, the
fewest scored by a Crusader opponent since Wilkes scored just two
in a 4-2 SU win on March 3 of last season.
SU netted five unanswered goals to open the game with all five
scores coming from different players. Marcus Cheatham
(Reisterstown, Md./Loyola) scored the final goal of the
opening quarter for a 5-0 Susquehanna lead.
The teams both netted one goal apiece in the second quarter with
Kerrigan scoring his second goal of the game with 7:52 left in the
second quarter. Hood finally got on the board with 2:37 left in the
second quarter but still trailed 6-1 at halftime.
The Blazers scored the opening goal of the third quarter after
just 75 seconds of action to make it 6-2 but Kerrigan responded six
minutes later with his third goal of the game to bring
Susquehanna's lead back to five (7-2).
Neither team found the back of the net in the fourth quarter
despite 11 shots from Susquehanna. The Crusader defense held Hood
to just three shots, though, with just two on goal as SU held on
for the victory.
Susquehanna hits the road for two games beginning March 7 with a 6
p.m. game at Shenandoah.
