FT. PIERCE, Fla. – The Susquehanna baseball team earned
its first victory of the 2013 season by defeating Lebanon Valley
5-3 on Wednesday afternoon. The Crusaders later fell to
Elizabethtown 14-4.
The Crusaders (1-7) had eight hits in the win led by freshman
Bryan Palsi (Brielle, N.J. / Manasquan) who went
3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Classmate Rob
Marcickiewicz (Red Bank, N.J. / Middletown South) went
2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Ty Raubenstine (Elizabethville, Pa. / Upper
Dauphin), Nick Kennedy (Brookeville, Md. / Good
Council) and Mike Rucereto (Washington Twp., N.J.
/ Bergen Catholic) picked up the other base knocks against
the Dutchmen (2-5).
Senior lefty reliever Matt Roe (Freehold, N.J. / St.
John Vianney) earned the win on the mound, as he went 2
2/3 innings, striking out two and allowing only one hit.
Gregg Uhlak (Ocean Gate, N.J. / Central
Regional) pitched a scoreless eighth inning in his first
collegiate action off the mound and Matt Smith (Blue Ridge
Summit, Pa. / Wyoming Seminary) closed out the ninth for
his first save of the year, shutting the door after walking a
pair.
SU lost the second game of the day to Elizabethtown, 14-4. The
Crusaders had nine hits against the Blue Jays (3-5) as Palsi yet
again led the offense, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Freshman
Chris Ryan (Toms River, N.J. / Toms River North)
drove in a pair and classmates Dylan Glassmire (Doylestown,
Pa. / Central Bucks South) and Ryan Place
(Berkeley Heights, N.J. / Governor Livingston) both had
one RBI each.
Freshman Alex Branch (Sea Girt, N.J. /
Manasquan) was charged with the loss, going four innings
and striking out two.
SU is off tomorrow before facing PSU-Behrend in a doubleheader
on Friday, starting at 10 a.m.
