Early Deficit Too Much For Crusaders at Lebanon Valley

Box Score

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Eight runs in the first two innings by the Dutchmen put Susquehanna in an early hole and this proved to be too much to climb out of as the Crusaders dropped a 10-3 decision at Lebanon Valley on Wednesday afternoon.

Sophomore Nick Kennedy (Brookeville, Md. / Good Council) had three hits, including a pair of doubles, to lead SU offensively. Kyle Semmel (Burlington Twp., N.J. / Holy Cross) had a pair of base knocks. As a team, the Crusaders (11-16) had 10 hits, but were plagued by seven errors.

LVC (9-16) had eleven hits, including a pair of homers. Dylan Tamecki paced the Dutchmen, going 3-for-5 with four RBI.

In the sixth inning, SU looked to rally. Senior Nick Ferlise (Toms River, N.J. / Toms River North) cracked a single to center and Semmel followed Ferlise with another single, this time to right field.

Greg Stellon (Chadds Ford, Pa. / Tatnall School) hit SU's third straight single, but unfortunately, Ferlise was thrown out at home by Lebanon Valley's right fielder to end the inning and the scoring threat.

In the seventh, the Crusaders scored their first run. Ty Raubenstine (Elizabethville, Pa. / Upper Dauphin) drew a one-out walk and later touched home on a sacrifice fly by Dan Wing (West Chester, Pa. / Unionville).

In the eighth inning, the SU bats woke up as the Crusaders scored three runs. Ferlise led off with a walk and with two outs, Rob Marcicikiewicz (Red Bank, N.J. / Middletown South) smacked a pinch-hit single to left center.

Both runners later scored on single through the right side by Jared Musilli (Branchville, N.J. / High Point Regional) cut the deficit to 10-3.

The Crusaders host Drew for a Landmark Conference weekend series, starting Saturday at 1 p.m.

Game Note: The Crusaders defeated LVC 5-3 for their first win of 2013 back on March 6 in Ft. Pierce, Fla. Bryan Palsi had two RBI, Matt Roe earned the win and Matt Smith picked up his first save of the year. Since 2003, SU is 2-16 against LVC.
