SCRANTON, Pa. – In a crucial Landmark Conference game,
Susquehanna men's lacrosse fell at Scranton 9-3 on Saturday
afternoon.
The Crusaders (8-5, 3-2) surrendered four first-quarter goals to
the Royals (8-4, 4-0) before notching their first goal, an
unassisted score by Nick Kifolo (Lewisburg, Pa. / Lewisburg
Area)--his first of the season--to cut the deficit to
4-1.
SU cut the lead in half (4-2) when Connor Moran
(Delafield, Wisc. / Kettle Moraine) ripped in his
17th goal of the year at the 13:27 mark of the second
period. The Royals tallied another goal before halftime to take a
5-2 lead into intermission.
In the third quarter, Austen Lein (New Vernon, N.J. /
Madison) took a feed from Tylere Fritts (Chatham,
N.J. / Chatham) and scored a man-up goal to again cut the
Royals lead in half (6-3) with 2:46 remaining in the period.
Unfortunately, Scranton scored three unanswered goals the rest of
the contest and came away with the 9-3 win.
Statiscally, the game was fairly close as the Royals edged the
Crusaders in shot (29 to 25) and ground balls (40 to 34).
Will Torrence (Wallingford, Pa. / Strath Haven)
made 10 saves in goal and Kade MacGregor (Centreville, Md.
/ Queen Anne's County) had a team-high six ground
balls. Peter Donley (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Pittsburgh Central
Catholic) went 6-for-15 in the faceoff circle.
SU travels to Marywood on Wednesday, April 17 at 4 p.m. before
hosting Catholic on Saturday, April 20 for a Landmark Conference
showdown at 1 p.m.
