SELISNGROVE, Pa. – An eight-goal first half helped propel the
Susquehanna women's lacrosse team to a 12-2 Landmark
Conference win over visiting Scranton as the Crusaders sent their
five seniors out with a win on Senior Day.
No. 12 SU (12-0, 2-0) scored eight first-half goals and held the
Royals (6-5, 1-2) without a goal for the entire second half en
route to the win.
Emma Ehler (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) led all players
with four goals while Michelle McGinniss (Randolph,
N.J./Randolph) added a hat trick and Meredith
Crane (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia) picked up two goals and
two assists for a four-point afternoon.
Senior goalie Emily Stankaitis (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye
Falls-Lima) played all 60 minutes and racked up 11 saves,
seven of which came in the first half.
The Crusaders more than doubled Scranton in shots (37-16) and won
11 of 16 draw controls. SU was also able to capitalize on three of
its seven free position shots while the Royals scored just one on
their six attempts.
As has been the trend most of the season, the Crusaders opened the
game on an offensive tear, going up 6- before 13 minutes had
elapsed. McGinniss got the scoring started exactly two minutes into
the game and Crane capped off the 6-0 stretch – during which
Ehler had two goals – with a goal at the 17:34 mark.
The teams traded goals over the remaining 15:36 of first-half
action with Annie McElaney (Natick, Mass./Natick)
netting the final goal of the half to make it 8-2 Susquehanna.
Five minutes into the second half of play, McGinniss scored her
third and final goal of the afternoon to put SU up 9-2. Three
different players scored the final three goals of the game, the
last of which came at the 5:29 mark, for the eventual 12-2
Susquehanna victory.
The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, April 20 with a1 p.m.
game at Landmark Conference foe Catholic.
