SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Crusaders allowed only one run all afternoon as Susquehanna softball swept Gettysburg in non-conference action on Monday. SU won game one in six innings, 9-1, followed by a 5-0 blanking in the second contest.
SU (28-6) plated four runs in the fourth inning and five runs in the sixth inning to come away with the game one win. In the sixth, the Crusaders were patient at the plate, drawing five walks—three with the bases loaded—to put the game out of reach.
Madison Clark (Blue Springs, Mo. / Blue Springs) knocked in three runs and Brianna Murphy (Hazlet, N.J. / Mater Dei Prep) went 2-for-4 with an RBI in the opener. Six different players had an RBI for the Crusaders.
Sarah Hoffman (Laceyville, Pa. / Wyalusing Valley) earned the win, her 10th of the year, as the senior allowed only five hits and one run while issuing just one walk.
In the nightcap, Morgan Lewis (Newtown, Pa. / Council Rock North) went the first three innings, allowing only one hit while Ashley Cole (Carle Place, N.Y. / Carle Place) went the last four frames and earned the win, her 10th of the season.
The Crusaders scored all five runs in the second off the Bullets (17-19). Murphy picked up an RBI single and Larissa Luu (Montandon, Pa. / Milton) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Amanda Neveroski (Toms River, N.J. / Toms River North) cracked a run-scoring single and SU later scored on a passed ball to take a 5-0 edge.
Cole limited the Bullets to three hits the remainder of the contest to seal the victory.
The Crusaders host Lebanon Valley on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
