SCRANTON, Pa. – Nine different players scored goals for the
11th-ranked Susquehanna women's lacrosse team in
the Crusaders' 21-7 victory over Marywood on Wednesday night
in Scranton. With the win, SU improves to 14-0 on the season.
Michelle McGinniss (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) led
all players with her seven-goal, one-assist outing. Brynn
Reid (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) chipped in four goals
and two assists of her own while Emma Ehler (Chatham,
N.J./Chatham) had three goals and two assists.
Starting goalie Emily Stankaitis (Honeoye Falls,
N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) played the first 37:38 of the
game and gave up just four goals while making nine saves.
As a team, the Crusaders finished with 53 shots to Marywood's
19 and held a decisive edge in draw controls, 21-8.
Reid got the scoring started after just over two minutes of play
with a free-position goal. That marked the start of a 3-0 run by
the Crusaders to open the game.
Marywood (6-8) got on the board with a goal at the 15:10 mark and
pulled within two, 5-3, with 7:48 on the clock.
With the score 7-4 in favor of Susquehanna, the Crusaders went on
an offensive tear over the final 6:23 of the half, scoring six
goals while holding Marywood scoreless over that span. McGinniss
scored the final two goals of the period, both coming in the final
1:19 of play, to give SU a 13-4 halftime lead.
Susquehanna came out of halftime and scored the first four goals of
the half within the first eight minutes of play to lead 17-4.
With 10 minutes to play, the Crusaders led 19-6 and went on to the
21-7 victory.
The Crusaders wrap-up their regular season on Saturday with a 2
p.m. game at Goucher.
