TOWSON, Md. – With Saturday's 15-7 win at Landmark
Conference opponent Goucher, the Susquehanna women's lacrosse
completed its undefeated regular season, improving to 15-0 on the
season.
The No. 1 seed Crusaders will now host No. 4 seed Drew in a
semifinal game on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
In the win, Emma Ehler (Chatham, N.J./Chatham)
again led all scorers with six goals to go along with two assists.
Meredith Crane (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia) added
four goals and one assist and goalie Emily Stankaitis
(Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) gave up just
seven goals and made six saves in her 60 minutes of work.
Emma Jones (Wolfeboro, N.H./Brewster Academy) had
one goal and one assist while leading all players with eight caused
turnovers and eight ground balls.
As a team, SU took 49 shots to Goucher's 22 and also won 14
draw controls to the Gophers' nine.
It was actually Goucher (7-9, 0-4) that jumped out to an early, 2-0
lead less than five minutes into the game before three different
Crusaders scored the game's next three goals to hand SU its
first lead of the afternoon, 3-2.
Goals were a premium for the remainder of the half and the game was
knotted at four after Brynn Reid (West Grove, Pa./Avon
Grove) scored the half's final goal with 42 seconds
on the clock.
It was a completely different story in the second half with a
combined 14 goals. Susquehanna opened on an Ehler goal after 75
seconds of play before Goucher responded with back-to-back scores
to retake the lead (6-5) with 18:18 left to play.
Fifteen seconds later Crane knotted the game at six. Her goal was
the start an 8-0 Crusader run that made it 13-6 in favor of SU with
just 2:48 left in the game.
Susquehanna added two goals in the final 26 seconds, both from
Ehler, to go on to win 15-7.
