Game Two Box Score
SCRANTON, Pa. – Starting their third Landmark Conference
series, Susquehanna baseball dropped a pair of decisions at
Scranton on Saturday afternoon. SU fell in game one 3-1 and dropped
game two 6-4.
In game one, the Royals defeated SU 3-1 as the Crusaders were
limited to only two hits against senior starter Robert Della
Polla.
One of those hits, however, was a solo home run by senior
Nick Ferlise (Toms River, N.J. / Toms River North)
to lead off the second inning, his 14th career round tripper,
giving SU a 1-0 lead. The other base knock was by Rob
Marcickiewicz (Red Bank, N.J. / Middletown South), a right
field single also in the second.
Scranton scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the
fourth off starter Spencer Hotaling (Selinsgrove, Pa. /
Selinsgrove Area). The sophomore righty went six innings,
scattering five hits while striking out seven and walking only one
Royal.
In the second contest, Casey Hood (Shrewsbury, Pa. /
Susquehannock) was tagged with the loss, going 4.2
innings, scattering five hits, allowing four earned runs, walking
three and striking out seven.
The Royals jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning on an
RBI double to right field. But SU bounced back and tied the game at
1-1 in the fifth. Marcickiewicz smacked a singled to center and
later scored on an RBI single by Ty Raubenstine
(Elizabethville, Pa. / Upper Dauphin). Raubenstine later
stole second followed by a walk drawn by Dan Wing (West
Chester, Pa. / Unionville) but unfortunately both runners
were left stranded to end the scoring threat.
Scranton went ahead 2-1 after an RBI single in the bottom of the
fifth and the Royals tacked on three more runs to lead 5-1 after
five innings of action.
But SU rallied in the top of the sixth, plating three runs to
make the contest a one-run ballgame (5-4). Ferlise led off with a
single, followed by Kyle Semmel (Burlington Twp., N.J. /
Holy Cross), who drew a walk. Both runners later
advanced bases on a wild pitch by the Royals.
Dylan Glassmire (Doylestown, Pa. / Central Bucks
South) drove in Ferlise with a sacrifice fly to center
field and Marcickiewicz cracked a run-scoring double to bring home
Semmel and make the game 5-3.
Marcickiewicz later touched home on a throwing error by the
Scranton shortstop to complete the scoring for the Crusaders in the
sixth. The Royals scored once more in the bottom of the frame after
a throwing error by SU's pitcher to go ahead 6-4.
The Crusaders and Royals complete their weekend series with a
nine-inning game at 12 p.m. tomorrow.
