SALISBURY, Md. – No. 8 Salisbury jumped out to a
commanding 12-1 halftime lead as Susquehanna's men's
lacrosse team fell to the Seagulls in the opening round of the 2013
NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Tournament 22-2 on Wednesday
afternoon.
Senior John Kerrigan (Maple Glen, Pa. / La Salle College
HS) accounted for both of the Crusaders' (12-7) goals with
a pair of unassisted scores. His first came with 1:19 left in the
first half and his second was with 5:07 remaining in the third
quarter.
The Seagulls (15-5) out-shot the Crusaders 55-19. Senior
goalkeeper Will Torrence (Wallingford, Pa. / Strath
Haven) made 12 saves in between the pipes. He closes out
his SU career as the all-time wins leader with 16 victories.
Freshman Mike Mainero (Kinnelon, N.J. /
Kinnelon) had a game-high five groundballs for SU and won
5-of-11 faceoff opportunities.
The loss ends the Crusaders' historic season, as SU set a
program record for wins (12) and won its first-ever conference
title by defeating USMMA 6-3 last Saturday to earn a berth into the
NCAA Tournament.
