CARLISLE, Pa. – The 2013 season opener for the Susquehanna
women's soccer team started out on a rough note as SU fell
5-0 at Dickinson.
Susquehanna (0-1) had only three shots all game while the Red
Devils (1-0) fired off 23 shots. Senior forward
Marissa DeParto (Franklin Lakes,
N.J./Indian Hills) accounted for all three of the
Crusaders' shots. Dickinson also had four corner kicks to
SU's one.
The Crusaders fell into an early, 1-0 hole after Dickinson scored
just 29 seconds into the action. It then became a 2-0 deficit at
the 9:33 mark.
It remained a 2-0 score at halftime as SU finished with just one
shot which came off the foot of DeParto.
The Red Devils added a third goal 12 minutes into the second half.
DeParto fired off both the Crusaders' second-half shots.
Dickinson capped off the game by scoring two goals in a 60-second
span to go up 5-0 with less than four minutes to play.
SU goalie Rachel Norbuts (Monroeville,
N.J./Woodstown) played all 90 minutes and finished with
nine saves while facing 22 shots.
Susquehanna has a quick turnaround as it hosts King's (Pa.)
on Saturday at 7 p.m. in its 2013 home opener.
