SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna field hockey team used
three goals on 26 shots to defeat visiting Albright 3-1 in the
consolation game of the Connie Harnum Classic.
Brodie Ercole (Oakmont, Pa. / Lewisburg Area)
finished with one goal, an assist and a game-high eight shots as SU
(1-1) captured its first win of the season. Freshman Emily
Novakovich (Saratoga, Calif. / Lynbrook) added one assist
and five shots while Erica Reichart (Gettysburg, Pa. /
Gettysburg Area) and Lauren Cram
(East Brunswick, N.J. / East Brunswick) scored one goal
apiece.
Goalie Margaret Ruth (Lewisberry, Pa. / Northern)
played all 70 minutes and notched four saves, all in the first
half.
The first half was clearly in Susquehanna's favor. SU got on
the board less than five minutes into the game with a goal from
Cram, the first of her collegiate career.
After less than 10 minute s of action, Reichart added the
team's second score of the game and Ercole chipped in her
first goal of the season with 3:52 left in the half to give her
squad a 3-0 halftime lead.
The Crusaders limited Albright (0-2) to just five shots all game,
including only one in the second half. That one shot, however,
translated into a Lions goal with less than three minutes
remaining, marking their only score of the afternoon.
SU remains at home to play Gwynedd-Mercy on Sept. 4 at 7 p.m.
