SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Senior forward Marissa DeParto (Franklin Lakes, N.J. / Indian Hills) scored the game-tying goal in the 89th minute for Susquehanna women's soccer, but unfortunately the Crusaders could not win their 2013 home opener against King's (Pa.) falling 2-1 in overtime.
DeParto scored the equalizer on a direct kick that sailed over the outstretched goalkeeper's hands at 88:37, which tied the match at 1-1 and the game eventually went into overtime.
In the extra period, the Lady Monarchs' (1-0) Alexandra Garrett fired in the game-winner at 95:58.
The Crusaders (0-2) outshot King's 14-12 and had nine shots on goal. DeParto had a game-best seven shots to go along with her team's lone goal. Samantha Zuponcic (Mantua, Ohio / Crestwood / Hiram) chipped in four shots, with three being on net.
Senior netminder Rachel Norbuts (Monroeville, N.J. / Woodstown) played the entire match, recording three saves.
SU is back in action on Wednesday at Lycoming for the annual River Derby game at 4:30 p.m.
