HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Susquehanna women's volleyball
team opened its 2013 campaign with two victories on Saturday,
taking down both Neumann and Widener by 3-1 scores at the Haverford
Tournament.
SU (2-0) defeated Neumann in its first match of the day 25-13,
25-21, 21-25 and 28-26. The Crusaders then went on to win versus
Widener 25-18, 24-26, 26-24, 25-19.
Against Widener, Jessica Holm (Montvale, N.J./Pascack
Hills) led the way with 14 kills and a .464 attack
percentage. Hayley Dunkel (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville
Area) added 13 kills while Erin Byrne (San Diego,
Calif./Scripps Ranch) finished with 10 kills, two service
aces and three digs.
Sarah Paluck (Nesquehoning, Pa./Tamaqua Area) led
all players with 32 digs while teammate Maggie
O'Hearn (Mountville, Pa./Hempfield) had a match-high
39 assists to complement her five digs.
With the two wins on Saturday, head coach Kuuipo
Tom is just one victory shy of 200 for his career.
The Crusaders finish out their weekend with two more matches on
Sunday. They face host Haverford at 10 a.m. followed by a 12 p.m.
match against Eastern.
