SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna women's tennis team got off to a more-than-solid start to the 2013-14 season with a 9-0 victory over visiting Penn College on a hot, humid Tuesday afternoon.
The Crusaders (1-0) recorded seven 6-0 singles victories over the course of the afternoon and took all three doubles matches by 8-1 scores over the Wildcats (1-2).
Shelby O'Riley (Ware, Mass./Quabbin Regional) won her singles matches by 6-1 scores at first singles while Jess Klinger (Hummelstown, Pa./Hershey) posted 6-0, 6-2 victories at second singles. Brielle Ferlauto (Neshanic Station, N.J./Somerville) and Jess Lage (Franklin Lakes, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) won in straight sets at third and fourth singles, respectively, while Christine Bender (Amityville, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran) defeated her opponent 6-0, 6-4. Alyssa Fleischman (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) capped off singles action with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at the six spot.
Ferlauto and Fleischman led off doubles action with an 8-1 win. Lage and Allison Lobell (Harrisburg, Pa./Lower Dauphin) and Kelly Furlong (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) and Megan Rudloff (Milton, Pa./Milton Area) followed suit at second and third doubles.
SU returns to action on Sept. 14 when the squad hosts Lebanon Valley at noon.
