SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Volleyball and men's soccer are
represented as Hayley Dunkel (Pottsville, Pa. / Pottsville
Area) and Kyle Semmel (Burlington Township, N.J. /
Holy Cross) have been named the first Pepsi/SAAC Super
Crusaders of 2013-14.
After being named Tournament MVP of the 2013 Hampton Inn
Crusader Classic, Dunkel was also recognized as the Landmark
Conference Women's Volleyball Player of the Week.
Dunkel played in every match and set this past weekend,
averaging 2.33 kills per set and finished with a .481 attack
percentage. She also added eight digs and 13 total blocks.
Dunkel is averaging 2.04 kps and leads the team with 28 total
blocks (20 assisted, eight solo, 1.00 bps) while adding 14 digs and
a team-high .319 attack percentage.
The Crusaders were named Co-Champions of the tournament after
going 4-0 and won all four matches by 3-0 decisions.
This season, Dunkel has appeared in all eight matches, leading
the Crusaders to a 7-1 record, their best start since joining the
Landmark in 2007.
Semmel led the team with three goals in two games this past
week, combining for half of SU's total goals. The junior had eight
shots and one game-winning goal against rival Lycoming in the
Battle of the Boot.
In four games this year, Semmel has a team-leading three goals
and six points on nine shots, with his three goals surpassing his
season-high of two set in 2011.
Dunkel and the Crusaders remain at home by hosting Wilkes on
Tuesday at 7 p.m. and will host the Old Friends Crossover
Tournament on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
Semmel and the men's soccer team host Misericordia on
Wednesday at 7 p.m. and No. 7 York (Pa.) on Saturday at 2 p.m.
