SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Junior Kyle Semmel (Burlington Township, N.J. / Holy Cross) scored in the 74th minute, lifting Susquehanna men's soccer to a 1-0 upset victory over No. 4-ranked York (Pa.) on Saturday afternoon.
Semmel took a feed from sophomore Gannon Keller (Selinsgrove, Pa. / Selinsgrove Area) and buried the shot in the lower corner past York's keeper for his fourth goal of the year, all in the last three matches.
Goalkeeper Matt Salsman (Selinsgrove, Pa. / Selinsgrove Area) made a crucial save in the waning seconds to keep the Spartans off the board and retained the clean sheet. The senior netminder played the entire match, making four stops.
Semmel led SU offensive attack with three shots off the bench. Patrick Fry (Denver, Colo. / Colorado Academy), Joe DeLuca (Freehold, N.J. / St. John Vianney) and Ryan Donlevie (Strathan, N.H. / Exeter) all registered two shots apiece.
The match was evenly played and testy throughout, with 17 total fouls being called and two yellow cards issued. York (4-1) held a 15-10 shots advantage but SU recorded more corners, 7-5.
The Crusaders (4-1) host Lebanon Valley on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m.

- The victory is only the third win for SU over York in the last 17 years (3-14-0) and the first back-to-back wins against the Spartans as the Crusaders won at York in 2012, 1-0.
- The Spartans have been nationally ranked in the top ten in four of the last five meetings (#10 in 2009, #8 in 2010, #2 in 2012, #4 in 2013).
