SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Twenty-four shots later, the Susquehanna women's soccer team found itself on the winning side of a 1-0 decision against Penn State Harrisburg on Tuesday night in Selinsgrove.

SU (1-5-0) racked up 24 shots, 13 on goal, while holding the Nittany Lions (4-2-0) to just two shots all evening to pick up its first win of 2013.

Nine different players had at least one shot apiece for the Crusaders with Marissa DeParto (Franklin Lakes, N.J./Indian Hills) leading the way with seven. Emily Firestone (Dover, Pa./Dover Area) made her only shot in the game count as she scored the game-winning goal early in the second half in what also marked the first goal of her collegiate career. Samantha Zuponcic (Mantua, Ohio/Crestwood/Hiram) added three shots and assisted on Firestone's second-half score.

Goalie Rachel Norbuts (Monroeville, N.J./Woodstown) had to make just one save all evening as only one of Penn State Harrisburg's two shots were on goal.

Despite a scoreless first half, the Crusaders fired off 14 shots to Penn State Harrisburg's 1. The Nittany Lions were held without a shot for the first 39 minutes of the game.

The Crusaders had a flurry of potential scoring chances in the closing minutes of the half with three corner kicks and six shots over a seven-minute span but none found the back of the net, keeping it scoreless at halftime.

Finally SU converted one of those shots into a goal when Zuponcic's pass found Firestone directly in front of the net. Firestone directed her shot past the Penn State goalie for the 1-0 Susquehanna lead with just under 29 minutes to play.

The Susquehanna defense held the Nittany Lions to only more shot the entire game and had several opportunities to pad its lead, including two shots by Kate Wiley (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) within 45 seconds of each other in the 80th and 81st minutes.

Susquehanna is back in action on Saturday, Sept. 21 with a 1 p.m. road game at Penn State Altoona.
