SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Sophomore Paul Siekmann (Washington Crossing, Pa. / Council Rock North) scored his first career goal in his first collegiate start, lifting Susquehanna men's soccer to a 2-0 Landmark Conference win against Moravian.
The Crusaders (5-3-1, 1-1) jumped on top early on as Siekmann scored in the sixth minute off a rebound from a shot by freshman Nick Fecci (Point Pleasant, N.J. / Point Pleasant).
The first half was all SU as the Crusaders outshot the Greyhounds 9-1 and attempted five corner kicks.
SU added an insurance goal in the second half when senior Andrew Murphy (Natick, Mass. / Natick) took a long feed down the sideline from junior David Trank (Mendham, N.J. / West Morris Mendham) and buried in his third goal of the year and 14th of his career.
The match began getting test as time wound down as Moravian's coach was ejected for arguing with the official and a pair of yellow cards were issued in the waning seconds to both teams.
Senior goalkeeper Matt Salsman (Selinsgrove, Pa. / Selinsgrove Area) made two stops on the afternoon.
SU outshot Moravian (5-3-2, 0-1) by a 16-3 margin, led by three shots from Siekmann.
The Crusaders have a week in between matches, playing at conference opponent Drew on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 3:30 p.m.
