WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – For the second-straight match, Susquehanna women's soccer fell in overtime as the Crusaders fell 2-1 to rival Lycoming in the seventh-annual River Derby on Wednesday afternoon.
SU (0-3) fell behind 1-0 as the Warriors scored a goal in the waning minutes of the first half.
But the Crusaders responded by scoring the equalizer in the opening minutes of the second period. Senior Angela Amato (Baltimore, Md. / Notre Dame Prep) found the back off the net off a corner from classmate Marissa DeParto (Franklin Lakes, N.J. / Indian Hills) at 46:21.
The Crusader defense limited Lycoming to only two second-half shots and SU had four shots in the last eight minutes of regulation but could not come up with a goal.
In the 99th minute, Lycoming's Spencer Larson scored the game-winner off a header to lift the Warriors to the River Derby win.
DeParto led all players with her six shots, four being on goal. Freshman Emily Firestone (Dover, Pa. / Dover Area) chipped in with three shots.
Senior netminder Rachel Norbuts (Monroeville, N.J. / Woodstown) suffered the defeat as she played the entire game, recording four saves.
The Crusaders remain on the road, travelling to No. 11 Misericordia on Saturday at 5 p.m. to face a Cougar team that reached the Final Four in 2012.
