Box Score

Box Score

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Despite a strong start, the Susquehanna women's basketball team could not hold on against Lebanon Valley, dropping a 68-42 decision on a snowy Thursday night in Annville.

The Crusaders (4-5) and Flying Dutchmen (9-1) were tied at 22 well into the first half but SU went on to score just 20 points over the remainder of the game.

Mariah Monahan (Towanda, Pa./Towanda Area) led the team with 16 points while Nikki Komara (Shamokin, Pa./Lourdes Regional) had 11 to go along with six rebounds and four steals.

Susquehanna shot 25 percent from the field while the Flying Dutchmen countered with a 50 percent showing. SU also had just 23 rebounds to Lebanon Valley's 44.

Points certainly were not at a premium to start the game as Lebanon Valley held an 11-5 edge less than four minutes into the action, aided by a 7-0 Dutchmen run that opened the game. The Crusaders were able to make it a four-point game, though, after two Monahan free throws at the 8:40 mark.

Four unanswered points, including a Komara layup with 6:41 to play, pulled SU within just two (19-17) and a Monahan trey two-and-a-half minutes later knotted the game at 22-all. Unfortunately, Lebanon Valley went on to end the half with a 12-0 run and lead 34-22 at the midway point of the game.

The Flying Dutchmen on a 7-2 run to take a 41-24 advantage and led by 20 (53-33) at the eight-minute mark of the half. Susquehanna remained down 59-38 with four minutes to play and ultimately fell 68-42.

SU remains on the road to face Baptist Bible on Jan. 6 at 6 p.m.
