READING, Pa. – The Susquehanna women's swimming &
diving team, competing in its final meet before the Landmark
Conference Championships, fell to Albright College by a narrow
score of 105.5 to 99.5. SU finished with a combined five
first-place finishes (individual and relay).
The Crusaders opened the afternoon with a 200 medley relay victory
with a time of 1:56.18 from swims by Erin McElwee
(Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville), Alex Bornman
(Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley), Ashlee
Weingarten (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) and
Julia Doherty (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial).
Kate Mays (Holland, Pa./Nazareth Academy) was the
top finisher for SU in the 1000 free with a third-place time of
11:40.30 and Kyle Seaman (Moreland Hills,
Ohio/Orange) grabbed a win in the 200 free after touching
the wall in 2:01.47. Seaman also went on to win the 100 free in a
time of 56.50.
The Crusaders took the three through five spots in the 50 free.
Bornman placed third (26.45) and was followed by Lexi Cole
(Danville, Pa./Danville) (26.57) and Doherty (26.72). Cole
also later earned third in the exhibition 200 mixed backstroke with
a time of 2:19.19.
Kelsey Lessard (Chestertown, Md./Queen Anne's
County) and McElwee captured second and third,
respectively, in the 200 IM with times of 2:22.22 and 2:24.56.
Weingarten and Lizzie Richart (Wyncote,
Pa./Cheltenham) also took second and third in the 100 fly
with respective times of 1:01.07 and 1:02.71 with Richart's
time a personal-best.
In the 100 backstroke, McElwee recorded SU's top time
(1:03.99), good for third. Meanwhile, Caroline
Henderson (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor
Livingston) was second in the 500 free (5:36.98) and was
followed just behind by Val Stearns (North Wales, Pa./North
Penn) (5:37.95).
Bornman picked up another win for her team by capturing the 100
breaststroke (1:12.21) and the meet ended with another win for SU
as the 400 free relay team of Annie Bruxelles (Hockessin,
Del./Sanford School), Cole, Lessard and Seaman posted a
winning time of 3:48.97.
The Crusaders will next compete at the Landmark Conference
Championships from Feb. 7-9 hosted by Marywood.
