Box Score

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna women's basketball team defeated visiting King's College 79-68 on Wednesday night in what marked the program's first win over the Monarchs since 1996 and the final non-conference, regular season game of the season.

The Crusaders (6-5), who moved over .500 on the season with the victory, were led by a career-best 27 points from Jonaida Williams (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Twp.) to go along with her six rebounds and four assists. Teammate Nikki Komara (Shamokin, Pa./Lourdes Regional) also had a career-high in points with 25 on 10-of-19 shooting and added 10 rebounds, four assists and four steals, as well.

The SU bench out-scored King's by a 21-2 margin and also picked up 22 points off 12 Monarchs turnovers.

The game started in favor of King's as the Monarchs jumped out to a 7-2 lead after less than three minutes of play. Susquehanna pulled within one, 12-11, on a Williams layup and went ahead 13-12 courtesy of a Sofia Schedler (Alexandria, Va./TC Williams) jumper at the 12:31 mark.

Susquehanna led 20-17 four minutes later and increased that lead to six (26-20) on a trey from Williams. The Monarchs (4-9) were able to trim that lead to just one late in the half, though, and the Crusaders went into halftime up 32-31.

SU went on to out-score King's 47-37 in the second half to finally put the game out of reach. It was an eight-point SU lead (41-33) not even two minutes into the period and Williams' jumper at the 9:44 mark finally put Susquehanna ahead by double digits (58-48).

Three minutes later, King's was able to make it a four-point game (58-54) but Susquehanna responded by putting together a 12-2 run that made it a 70-56 ballgame with just 3:38 to play.

The Crusaders were largely able to remain ahead by 10-plus points for the remainder of the game and picked up the eventual 79-68 victory.

Susquehanna now hits the road to face Landmark Conference opponent Drew on Saturday at 4 p.m.
