Box Score SELINSGROVE, Pa. – A spirited defensive showing was enough to keep the game close, but not enough to propel the Susquehanna women's soccer team past visiting Gettysburg as SU (3-7-1) fell 2-0 at home on Wednesday evening. It is the fewest goals that the Crusaders have allowed against the Bullets in the recent history of the matchup.
Gettysburg (5-3-1) held a wide margin in shots with 19 to three, took seven corner kicks to SU's one, and were able to hold Susquehanna to only one shot on goal, but failed to put the game out of reach until the 76th minute.
The visitors pulled ahead 1-0 with 10 minutes before halftime after a chipped shot by Shannon Brady from the edge of the box barely eluded keeper Jordyn Slocum (Eagleville, Pa./Methacton), who finished the game with six saves.
After half, the Bullets remained in control in their offensive zone, but SU's backline, anchored by Shauna Barry (Point Pleasant, N.J./St. Rose) and Marissa Heddings (Selinsgrove, Pa/Selinsgrove Area), kept them at bay with lockdown defending. Despite these best efforts, Gettysburg put the game away at 75:03 when a scramble in front of the net resulted in a headed goal by Brigid Behan.
Susquehanna earned a corner kick in the last few minutes of the contest, but were unable to capitalize with a score.
Morgan Rudko (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) tallied two shots, while Cassandra Coombs (Whitehouse Station, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) recorded one.
The Crusaders return to Landmark Conference action at Drew University on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 3:30 p.m.
