Crusaders Narrowly Edged by Blue Jays

Box Score

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – A mere one second-half goal by Elizabethtown proved to be the difference as the Susquehanna women's soccer team lost 1-0 to the Blue Jays on Saturday afternoon in Selinsgrove.

The Crusader defense kept Elizabethtown off the scoreboard for the first 60 minutes of the game but a goal by Lauren Berry at the 60:13 stood up as the game winner.

SU (4-9-1, 0-3-0) had just six shots in the game while Elizabethtown finished with 16. Unfortunately, the Crusaders failed to put any of those six shots on goal but their goalie, Jordyn Slocum (Manalapan, N.J./Freehold Township), came up with seven saves against the Blue Jays (8-3-0, 2-1-0) in her 90 minutes of action.

SU struggled to put together a true scoring threat in the opening 45 minutes of play. The Crusaders did, however, take the final shot of the half, a shot by Kate Wiley (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) that went high and it remained 0-0 at the midway point of the game.

The Blue Jays took the first three shots of the second half with that third shot coming in the form of Berry's goal in the 61st minute to give Elizabethtown the 1-0 lead.

SU was then held without a shot for the final 19 minutes of play and the game ended on a save by Slocum with three seconds remaining to keep it a 1-0 score.

Susquehanna continues Landmark Conference play on Oct. 15 with a 3:30 p.m. game at Juniata.
