Volleyball Wraps Up Invitational with Perfect Saturday

SCHNECTADY, N.Y. – With two more 3-0 wins on Saturday, the Susquehanna volleyball team finished play at the Union Invitational with a 4-0 record and did not drop a set. The Crusaders also extended their win streak to eight matches and improved to 21-6 overall.

Sophomore Maggie O'Hearn (Mountville, Pa./Hempfield) and junior Sarah Paluck (Nesquehoning, Pa./Tamaqua Area) were named to the All-Tournament team for SU.

The team began the day with a 25-12, 25-14, 25-11 rout of Bridgewater State that lasted less than an hour. The first set was back and forth until 9-7 when the Crusaders proceeded to win 11 of the next 12 points and put the set out of reach.

In the set, the team recorded 16 kills and only two errors for a hitting percentage of .500.

SU was similarly dominant in sets two and three, despite posting a lower attack percentage, and never trailed for more than one point.

Hayley Dunkel (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville Area) led with six kills, while Morgan Whiteman (Camp Hill, Pa./Trinity), Kady Faller (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township), Erin Byrne (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch), and Marykate Sherkness (Treskow, Pa./Marian Catholic) all added five.

Dunkel also recorded three service aces and block assists, while O'Hearn finished with a full stat line of 29 assists, three service aces, seven digs, and four block assists. Paluck reached double figures in digs with 10 while Corinne Eidle (Reading, Pa./Wyomissing Area) contributed nine.

Susquehanna continued its roll against Skidmore, sweeping the Thoroughbreds 25-12, 25-11. 25-10.

The Crusaders tallied 50 kills and only seven errors in the match, which saw 15 different SU players take the court.

O'Hearn handed out 22 assists while Julie Kreutzer (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) also reached double figures with 15. Byrne recorded 10 kills as Whiteman added eight and Faller and Leana Carvin (Walnutport, Pa./Northampton Area) finished with seven apiece.

The team returns to Landmark Conference play next weekend with road matches against Scranton and Merchant Marine on Saturday, Oct. 18.
