Box Score BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Susquehanna women's soccer team picked up its third shutout of the fall, playing Moravian to a 0-0 tie in Bethlehem on Saturday afternoon.
Moravian (7-6-1, 2-1-1) out-shot SU (4-9-2, 0-3-1) by a 23-11 margin but the Crusader defense managed to keep the Greyhounds off the board, in part by holding Moravian to just six shots on goal.
Susquehanna's Alyssa Bolger (Stanhope, N.J./Pope John Regional) and Mairead Ruane (Marywood, N.J./Paramus Catholic) had four shots apiece to account for eight of the team's 11 shots.
Goalie Jordyn Slocum (Eagleville, Pa./Methacton) racked up six saves, four of which came in the first half.
The Crusaders' first shot of the game did not come until the 37th minute of the game when Haley Bingaman's (Northumberland, Pa./Shikellamy) shot at the 36:46 mark was saved by Greyhounds' goalie Jacqueline Zalis. Fifty seconds later, Ruane's shot sailed wide and that marked Susquehanna's final shot of the first half.
Zalis came up with another save on a Kate Wiley (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) shot in the 73rd minute and picked up another save on a Bolger shot just inside the 80-minute mark. Bolger fired Susquehanna's final shot of regulation but it sailed right and a corner kick by Moravian's Kirsten Schall as time expired did not translate into a goal.
Ruane accounted for the only shot by either team in the first overtime period. In the second overtime period, Schall's shot with a mere 28 seconds left to play was saved by Slocum but the team was awarded a corner kick with 15 ticks left in the game. Fortunately for SU, the Greyhounds were unable to get a shot off and the game ended in a 0-0 draw.
Susquehanna remains on the road to face Landmark Conference opponent Juniata on Oct. 21 at 3:30 p.m.
