Box Score MADISON, N.J. – Unfortunately for the Susquehanna women's soccer team, a relatively evenly-played match against Drew University went the way of the Rangers, who captured a 1-0 victory on Saturday afternoon.
The Crusaders (3-8-1, 0-2-0) held a slim, 11-10 edge in shots over Drew (4-6-0, 1-1-0) with each team putting four of those shots on goal. Susquehanna took nine of its shots in the second half but Drew goalie Sara Nash had all four of her saves in that second period.
Alyssa Bolger (Stanhope, N.J./Pope John Regional) led SU with three shots while Samantha Zuponcic (Mantua, Ohio/Crestwood/Hiram) and Rachel Moyer (Hellertown, Pa./Saucon Valley) each had two.
The Rangers took four of the first five shots of the game. Their fifth shot of the half, which came in the 23rd minute, resulted in a goal when Emma Campbell stole the ball after a Crusader miscue on defense and knocked the ball past SU goalie Jennifer Thorsheim (Manalapan, N.J./Freehold Township).
Susquehanna had only shot over the remaining 22 minutes of the half but the SU defense held the Rangers to just one shot, as well, to keep the Crusaders within one of the lead at halftime.
Nash came up with key saves in the second half, including one with just 10 minutes to play. Then, with a mere 19 ticks on the clock, Moyer fired off a shot that was ultimately blocked and time ran out for the Crusaders.
SU returns to the field on Oct. 8 when the team travels to Delaware Valley for a 7 p.m. game.
