Box Score DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – A season-high four goals propelled the Susquehanna women's soccer team to a 4-1 victory at Delaware Valley on Wednesday night.
Senior Sam Zuponcic (Mantua, Ohio/Crestwood/Hiram) accounted for two of SU's goals while the Crusader defense gave up just one goal on 13 shots and did not allow a Delaware Valley (3-7-2) corner kick all night. Goalie Jordyn Slocum (Eagleville, Pa./Methacton) tallied seven saves for the Crusaders (4-8-1).
The game quickly opened in Susquehanna's favor as it took Zuponcic just 7:43 to score the game's first goal on a turnaround shot that she buried into the left corner.
Almost exactly six minutes later, Kate Wiley (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) lobbed a ball over Delaware Valley goalie Kelly Quinn's head from 15 yards out for a 2-0 Crusader lead.
Then, with just 22 seconds remaining in the opening half, Cassandra Coombs (Whitehouse Station, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) netted an unassisted goal on a hard shot after a defensive miscue by the Aggies and just like that, SU led 3-0 at the half.
Zuponcic proceeded to make it 4-0 when she scored her second goal of the game in the 59th minute before Delaware Valley finally got on the board with 24 minutes remaining for a 4-1 game.
SU held the Aggies without a shot for the final 7:19 of the game, though, to easily hold onto the 4-1 victory.
The Crusaders return home – and return to conference play – on Saturday when they host Elizabethtown at 1:00 p.m.
