LEWISBURG, Pa. – Despite being the only Division III institution competing at this weekend's Bucknell Invitational, the Susquehanna swimming and diving teams managed to make their mark on Saturday with a school record and NCAA 'B' cut time.
In the morning, freshman Joann Butkus (Barnesville, Pa./Tamaqua Area) set a school record in only the fifth meet of her collegiate career with a time of 1:08.03 in the 100 breaststroke, besting the 1:08.70 mark set by Alex Bornman (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) last year.
Later in the day, Kelsey Lessard (Chestertown, Md./Queen Anne's County) earned an NCAA 'B' cut time in the 400 individual medley with a 4:36.52 mark, beating the cut time, 4:36.69, to earn a chance to qualify for the NCAA Division III national meet.
On the women's side, the foursome of Butkus, Annie Bruxelles (Hockessin, Del./Sanford School), Ashlee Weingarten (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown), and Jessica Jozefiak (Doylestown, Pa. / Central/Bucks East) swam to a 20th-place finish in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:51.96.
The team of Lessard, Jozefiak, Lexi Cole (Danville, Pa./Danville), and Caroline Henderson (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) placed 13th in the 800 free relay in 8:03.49.
For the men, Danny Csakai (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) swam to a 23rd-place finish in the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.50 and joined Sam Calhoun (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg), David Miller (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca), and Bill Crumrine (Beaver, Pa./Beaver Area) to place 17th in the 800 free relay.
Miller, Csakai, Eric Lawrence (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom), and Duncan Frazier (Montgomery, Pa./Williamsport Area) also finished 15th in 200 medley relay (1:38.22).
