SELINSGROVE, Pa.-  Men's and women's basketball are represented as the Susquehanna Pepsi/SAAC Super Crusaders for the period ending Nov. 23. Sophomore Steven Weidlich (Watchung, N.J./Watchung Hills) and senior Jonaida Williams (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Twp.) were selected for the award.

Both players led their respective teams to titles in the Pepsi Tipoff Tournament this past weekend and were named Most Valuable Player for their performances.

Weidlich helped the Crusaders to a 3-0 week with a 91-71 win over Lycoming on Tuesday, a 99-57 victory against Penn State Worthington Scranton in the Tipoff Tournament opener and a 67-45 win against King's (Pa.) in the tournament championship.

The sophomore guard averaged a team-high 13.0 points per contest in addition to 3.7 assists and 6.3 rebounds. Against Lycoming, he scored 17 points to go with six rebounds and four assists.

Although he was limited by foul trouble against Worthington Scranton, Weildich still managed to record 11 points in only 18 minutes on 3-of-5 shooting from three-point range in addition to five assists and four rebounds. In the championship game, he just missed out on a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds.

Williams averaged 20.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in two tournament games as SU claimed a 72-67 win over Rosemont in the opener and a 61-41 victory against Penn State Harrisburg in the final.

The senior had a team-high 20 points against Rosemont and drained a three-pointer with 12 seconds left in regulation to give SU a five-point advantage and put the game out of the Ravens' reach. She was also disruptive on the defensive end, recording two blocks and two steals.

In the championship game, Williams put up 20 more points on 8-of-12 shooting, including three treys on six attempts.

The Crusaders are 3-1 on the season and Williams leads the team in points per game (15.3) and free throw percentage (91.7).

Weidlich and the men's basketball team have a quick turnaround as they travel to Penn State Harrisburg on Nov. 24 for a 7 p.m. tipoff. Williams and women's squad next compete at Lycoming on Sunday, Nov. 30 at 4 p.m.
