Women See Win Streak Snapped by Warriors

Box Score

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Susquehanna women's basketball team saw November come to a close with a 72-59 loss at Lycoming College, snapping the Crusaders' three-game win streak.

SU trailed by just four late in the second half but a strong finish by Lycoming (5-1) put the game out of reach for Susquehanna (3-2).

Nikki Komara (Shamokin, Pa./Lourdes Regional), Jonaida Williams (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Twp.) and Nicole Gault (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) all tied for the team lead in points with nine. Komara led the team with seven boards while Williams and Gault had six each. Angie Schedler (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams) added eight points while Anna Bojakowski (Toms River, N.J./Toms River South) chipped in seven in just nine minutes off the bench.

Both teams shot better than 40 percent from the floor but the Warriors sank 50 percent of their three-point shots (6-of-12) while limiting SU to a 25 percent effort from beyond the arc. Lycoming also scored 18 points off turnovers.

The Warriors jumped out to a 4-0 lead after less than a minute of play before SU went on a 7-0 run to go ahead 7-4. That turned into a six-point lead (12-6) on a Schedler trey with 14:06 on the clock.

The Warriors regained the lead, 15-14, at the midway point of the half. Their advantage grew to nine, 28-19, on a Janelle Ziminski three-pointer with 3:57 remaining and the Crusaders found themselves down by 10 (34-24) at halftime.

A Bojakowski layup at the 17:32 mark of the second half cut Lycoming's lead to single digits (37-28) but less than 60 seconds later, the Warriors were back up by 11, 41-30.

With 14:10 to play, Gault's layup brought SU within eight, 43-35, and two Schedler free throws 20 seconds later made it a 43-37 game.

With 7:31 to play, Lycoming had regained a double-digit lead (55-45) before the Crusaders scored six of the next eight points with Lexi Biggs-Garcia's (McLean, Va./Langley) layup trimming the lead to six (57-51) with 5:06 still to play.

Komara kept it a six-point game with a layup at the 3:14 mark for a 59-53 score and Schedler drained a three with 2:42 to play to bring SU within just four of the lead, 61-57, the closest the Crusaders had been since the 6:35 mark of the first half.

Unfortunately, the Warriors countered with a 6-0 run to put Susquehanna back in a 10-point deficit (67-57) with 1:27 remaining. The Crusaders were forced to foul and Lycoming made four free throws over the remaining 56 seconds to seal the win.

SU returns home to open Landmark Conference play on Dec. 3 with a 7 p.m. game against Catholic.
