WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Susquehanna women's swimming & diving team picked up its second Landmark Conference win of the season with a 152-107 victory at Catholic on Sunday afternoon. The Crusaders opened league action last weekend with a 157-99 home win against Elizabethtown.
SU swept the one through three spots in the 1000 free. Caroline Henderson (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) touched the wall first in 11:27.58 and was followed by Lindsey VanKirk (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills) (11:34.90) and Morgan Sattler (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) (11:47.97).
Lexi Cole (Danville, Pa./Danville) went on to win the 200 free with a time of 2:02.56, more than one second ahead of the runner-up from Catholic.
Annie Bruxelles (Hockessin, Del./Sanford School) and Erin McElwee (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville Area) captured first and second in the 100 backstroke with respective times of 1:02.16 and 1:03.67 while in the 100 breaststroke, Joann Butkus (Barnesville, Pa./Tamaqua Area) placed second (1:11.23) and Paige Wagner (Rising Sun, Md./Rising Sun) took third (1:13.28).
Bruxelles also went on to win the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:17.31, a personal-best time for the senior and ninth-best mark in program history.
Kelsey Lessard's (Chestertown, MD./Queen Anne's County) time of 2:19.74 in the 200 butterfly was good for first overall. Lessard also took home a second-place finish in the 200 breaststroke (2:34.05) with teammate Butkus in third (2:39.11) and Wagner fourth (2:42.65).
The 50 free saw Ashlee Weingarten (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) post a second-place time of 26.01 and was followed by Jessica Jozefiak (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) in third (26.19).
Cole and Jozefiak teamed up for a two-three finish in the 100 free with respective times of 57.08 and 57.93. Later in the meet, Cole won the 500 free after touching the wall in 5:29.03, nearly six seconds ahead of the second-place time of 5:35.62.
SU swept the top three spots in the 100 butterfly with Weingarten's time of 1:02.32 first overall. She was followed by Jozefiak (1:02.92) and Madeline Toohey (Oradell, N.J./River Dell) (1:06.17).
Lessard and VanKirk were one-two in the 400 IM with times of 4:53.343 and 5:01.26 to round out the individual events.
In the relays, the Crusaders took second and third in the 200 medley relay with the "A" team of Bruxelles, Butkus, Weingarten and Jozefiak posting a second-place time of 1:53.45, just .25 of a second off from first place.
The Crusader exhibitioned the 200 free relay but their time of 1:44.39 marked the second-fastest time in the event with swims from Kyle Seaman (Moreland Hills, Ohio/Orange), Weingarten, Toohey and Avanti Banks (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg).
Susquehanna returns to action on Nov. 15 as the team travels to Gettysburg for a 2 p.m. meet with the Bullets and Messiah College.
