Williams' Career Night Powers Crusaders Past Marywood

Box Score

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna women's basketball team picked up its third consecutive win on Monday evening in a 71-42 rout over non-conference opponent Marywood. Senior Jonaida Williams (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Twp.) recorded a career-high 29 points on 9-of-14 shooting and a perfect 8-for-8 mark from the free-throw line.

It was the fourth time this season she scored 20 points or more and the second time in three games. Angie Schedler (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams) provided nine points on three three-pointers and Nikki Komara (Shamokin, Pa./Lourdes Regional) had a full stat line with six points, six rebounds, six assists, four steals and two blocks.

Lexi Biggs-Garcia (McLean, Va./Langley) led the Crusaders with eight rebounds, including two on the offensive glass.

After SU (6-2) scored the opening six points, Marywood (3-4) responded with a run of its own and eventually tied the game at 11 apiece. From there, the teams traded the lead until 17-17 when four straight points from Williams gave the Crusaders a 21-17 advantage.

Layups from the Pacers closed the gap with just over four minutes remaining in the half, but that was as close as the visitors would come for the remainder of the game. Back-to-back treys from Sofia Schedler (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams) and Williams followed by a Courtney Adams (Hamilton, N.J./Hamilton West) layup sparked a decisive run for SU.

Although Marywood would sink two free throws before the half, it did not record a made basket again until 17:37 in the second period. By that point, the Crusaders held a 43-25 lead and the game's momentum.

SU led by as many as 31 points at 69-38 with 4:14 remaining in regulation after Williams, who scored 20 of her 29 points in the second half, sunk a pair from the line.

In the second period, the Crusaders held the Pacers to a 23.3 percent mark from the field and outrebounded the visitors 23 to 16. Susquehanna also limited Marywood to no three-pointers in 18 attempts, well below its average of 6.8 made per game.

SU sank 12 of its 14 free-throw attempts for a team percentage of 85.7, its highest mark of the season.

The team continues non-conference play when it travels to Bryn Athyn on Wednesday, Dec. 17 for a 7 p.m. game.
