Box Score SELINSGROVE, Pa. – For the first time since February 2010, the Susquehanna women's basketball team defeated Landmark Conference foe The Catholic University of America, winning a 67-59 conference-opening contest on Wednesday night.
The Crusaders (4-2, 1-0) also open the conference season with a victory for the first time since the 2010-11 campaign.
Three players reached double figures for SU with Jonaida Williams (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Twp.) netting a game high 21 points. Nikki Komara (Shamokin, Pa./Lourdes) had a double-double with 11 points and 11 boards while also adding a game best six assists. Sofia Schedler (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams) finished with 10 points and five assists to just one turnover.

As a team, Susquehanna shot nearly 42 percent from the floor, sank one-third of its three-point shots and converted on 81 percent of its free throws. The Crusaders also managed 20 points off the Cardinals' 17 turnovers.
It was not until the second half that Susquehanna really put the game out of reach. Five minutes into the first half, SU held a slim, 6-5 edge on a Williams layup but Catholic (3-3, 0-1) went on to take a six-point advantage (18-12) with 11 minutes to play in the half.
The Cardinals soon led by double digits, 25-15, on two Melissa Errico free throws with 6:15 to play. Susquehanna ended the half, though, by scoring five unanswered points, the final three of which came on an Angie Schedler (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams) trey with just seven seconds remaining to make it a 28-26 game.
SU took its first lead of the second half just 4:13 into the period when Sofia Schedler's jumper made it 35-34 in favor of the Crusaders. Five minutes later, Susquehanna saw that lead grow to 10 when a Komara layup at the 9:56 mark put SU up 52-42.
Catholic made it a three-point game (53-50) when Nicole Tollevsen connected on a three-pointer with 4:49 to play, but a 7-0 Crusader run pushed their advantage back to 10 (60-50) and the Cardinals pulled no closer than five over the remaining 2:30 of the game.
Susquehanna remains at home to host USMMA on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 2 p.m.
