SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Freshman Nikki Komara (Shamokin, Pa. / Lourdes Regional) recorded her fifth double-double of the season as the Susquehanna women's basketball team defeated Drew 62-43 in Landmark Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
The Crusaders (10-8, 4-4 Landmark) led from start to finish against the Rangers (11-8, 4-4 Landmark) and limited Drew to shoot only 30.8 percent from the field (16-of-52) and 20 percent from beyond the arc (3-of-15).
Komara finished with 15 points, a career-high 16 rebounds, six steals and four assists. Senior Mariah Monahan (Towanda, Pa. / Towanda) scored a game-high 17 points and distributed a contest-best seven assists. Freshman Nicole Gault (Medford, N.J. / Shawnee) chipped in with 14 points, four boards and two assists.
SU jumped out to a 12-1 lead with 13:17 to play in the opening half but Drew chipped away and got within five points (14-9) after a pair of buckets by Brianna Wilson with 10:49 to go. Wilson led the Rangers with 16 points for the game.
But, a fast-break layup by Komara gave SU a nine-point cushion (24-15) with 6:13 to go in the half and the Crusaders went into the locker room holding a seven-point advantage (25-18).
The Orange & Maroon went ahead by 16 points (42-26) at the 11:25 mark of the second period on another basket by Komara. Drew trimmed their deficit to 11 (45-34) but a 15-4 Susquehanna run ended the game and handed the Crusaders a key league victory, with SU improving to 5-1 against Drew at home.
SU hosts Goucher on Wednesday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. The Crusaders defeated the Gophers earlier this season, 62-50.
