WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Susquehanna men's lacrosse team erased a three-goal deficit against Lycoming to come back and grab a 9-8, season-opening win against the Warriors. It was the team's first win in Williamsport since the 2007 season.

Pat Brogan (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) had a five-point afternoon with two goals and a game-high three assists. He was one of four players with two goals in the game. Austen Lein (New Vernon, N.J./Madison) added two goals and two assists while Ryan Buckley (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) had two goals and an assist with his final goal proving to be the game winner.

Crusader goalie Jared Knowlton (North Salem, N.Y./Kent School) racked up 17 saves in his 60 minutes of action.

The teams nearly matched each other in shots with SU (1-0) taking 34 to Lycoming's 35. The Warriors (0-2) did shut out SU on all six of the team's' extra-man opportunities.

Lycoming accounted for both first-quarter goals to lead 2-0 after the first quarter. Each team then netted two goals apiece in the second quarter. Jake Calder (Lutherville, Md./Dulaney) scored the period's first goal to trim Lycoming's lead to 2-1 but the Warriors rattled off back-to-back goals to lead 4-1. Adam Fox (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield) capped off the first-half scoring with a goal at the 1:07 mark to again make it just a two-goal Warriors lead.

It took Lycoming roughly two minutes of play into the third quarter to score its fifth goal of the game and regain a three-goal advantage. This time it was SU, however, that responded with back-to-back goals – one from Calder and one from Lein – for a 5-4 game with 12:22 still to play in the third quarter.

The Warriors scored twice in 60 seconds to make it 7-4 but Brogan scored his first goal of the game at the 3:23 mark of the quarter and the Crusaders went into the final 15 minutes of play down by just two (7-5).

For the third time in the afternoon, Lycoming led off with the first goal of the quarter and made it 8-5with 12:17 left in regulation. The SU defense, however, shut out the Warriors for the remaining minutes of the game while the offense put goal after goal in the net.

Buckley's goal at the 11:31 mark made it 8-6 and Brogan netted his second goal three minutes later for an 8-7 game. Lein accounted for the equalizer when he found the back of the net with 4:41 to play and just over two minutes later, Buckley scored the ultimate game-winning goal off an assist from Carmen Raroha (Voorhees, N.J./Bishop Eustace) to make it a 9-8 Susquehanna lead with 2:22 remaining.

The Crusaders open their home season on Feb. 26 with a 4 p.m. game against Muhlenberg.
