SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna men's lacrosse
team could not come out on top of Muhlenberg after the Mules of
handed the Crusaders their first loss of 2014, 6-4, in SU's
first home game of the season on Wednesday afternoon.
Susquehanna (1-1) took the first lead of the game with a goal
from senior Pat Brogan (Lancaster, Pa. /
Hempfield). However, Muhlenberg responded with the tying
goal at 6:17 in the first quarter. The Mules had 11 shots to
Susquehanna's five in the first quarter.
Junior Carmen Raroha (Voorhees, N.J. / Bishop
Eustace) gave the Crusaders their second lead of the game
to begin the second quarter as he was assisted by senior attack
Austen Lein (New Vernon, N.J. / Madison).
Muhlenberg tied it back up at 2-2 with only 29 ticks left the
second period and game remained knotted at intermission.
Brogan scored again off an assist from Lein to put Susquehanna
back in front, 3-2, with 11:41 to go in the third. But just over a
minute later, the Mules tied the game on an unassisted score.
The Mules never led me until the fourth quarter when
back-to-back goals put Muhlenberg ahead 4-3. Sophomore Jake
Calder (Lutherville, Md. / Dulaney) scored the final goal
for the Crusaders with 2:49 to play in the game before Muhlenberg
secured the win with a goal at 1:40. For the afternoon, SU outshot
Muhlenberg 35 to 29.
Sophomore Kade MacGregor (Centreville, Md. /
Queen's Anne's County) had five groundballs
and four caused turnovers with senior J.B. Montanye
(Reisterstown, Md. / Loyola) also accumulating five ground
balls. Sophomore Corrie Van Haasteren (Raymone, Maine /
Hebron Academy) chipped in with two ground balls and three
caused turnovers.
Junior goalie Jared Knowlton (North Salem, N.Y. / Kent
School) got the start for Susquehanna and recorded eight
saves on the day.
The Crusaders remain at home to take on King's (Pa.) on
Sunday, March 2 at 1 p.m.
