ANNVILLE, Pa. - The Susquehanna women's lacrosse team
suffered its third-straight loss after falling 13-10 at Lebanon
Valley on Wednesday afternoon.
The Crusaders (1-3) had an early, first-quarter lead and trailed
by just two goals late in the game but ran out of time to threaten
Lebanon Valley's lead.
Emma Ehler (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) accounted for
four of SU's goals with Brynn Reid (West Grove,
Pa./Avon Grove) adding three. Three other players had one
goal each. Goalie Alyssa Rothman (Trooper,
Pa./Methacton) played all 60 minutes and finished with 11
saves.
The Flying Dutchmen (5-2) had 29 shots to SU's 19 and won 14
draw controls to Susquehanna's 11. The Crusaders did connect
on 4-of-9 free position shots, though.
SU jumped out to a 3-1 lead with Ehler scoring two of those
three goals. Meredith Crane (Maplewood,
N.J./Columbia) was able to keep her team ahead by two,
4-2, with a goal at the 18:13 mark of the half. However, Lebanon
Valley scored back-to-back-to-back goals to go ahead 5-4 with less
than six minutes to play in the opening period.
The teams traded goals to end the final minutes of the half and
the Flying Dutchmen maintained a one-goal lead (6-5) at
halftime.
Lebanon Valley went up 7-5 early in the second half before Ehler
and Reid scored back-to-back goals in less than 40 seconds to make
it a tie game at 7-7 with 26:24 to play.
It remained tied at eight three minutes later after another goal
from Ehler and Emma Jones (Wolfeboro, N.H./Brewster
Academy) then put SU ahead 9-8 with a score at the 21:31
mark of the half. Lebanon Valley countered with three unanswered
goals for an 11-9 lead before Reid cut that lead to one (11-10)
after a goal with less than 15 minutes to play.
The Flying Dutchmen's Tori Kuntz scored with 13:50 on the
clock for a 12-10 lead. While the Crusaders held Lebanon Valley
scoreless for the next 12 minutes, Susquehanna was also unable to
find the back of the net and it remained a 12-10 Lebanon Valley
lead until Anna Pagels tacked on an insurance goal for the Flying
Dutchmen at the 1:38 mark of the half to essentially seal the win
for her team.
Susquehanna opens Landmark Conference play this weekend with a 1
p.m. game at Elizabethtown on Saturday, March. 15.
