SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna women's lacrosse
team scored seven goals in the first five minutes of its game
against Marywood and eventually went on to win 20-2 in a midweek,
non-conference matchup. SU has now won three-straight games.
The two goals were the fewest given up by the Crusaders since a
12-2 victory over Scranton on April 13 of last year while the
18-goal margin of victory is the largest under head coach
Laura Moan.
Nine different players scored for SU (4-3) with Emma Ehler
(Chatham, N.J./Chatham) and Michelle McGinniss
(Randolph, N.J./Randolph) scoring four each. Brynn
Reid (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) had a hat trick while
Becky McHugh (Royersford, Pa./Archbishop John
Carroll) added two goals and a game-high two assists.
The team out-shot Marywood (3-6) by a 36-16 margin with 30 shots
in the first half alone. The Crusaders also forced 25 Marywood
turnovers and won 13 draw controls to the Pacers' 11.
Ehler scored a mere 13 seconds into the game and Susquehanna never
looked back. After just five minutes of play it stood 7-0 SU and by
the midway point of the game the Crusaders led 10-0.
Over the remaining 10 minutes of the first half Susquehanna added
six more goals from four different players for a 16-0 game.
Marywood scored its first goal of the game with 27 seconds to play
in the half to make it 16-1.
The Crusaders scored the first four goals of the second half to
increase their lead to 19 (20-1) before Marywood again scored the
final goal of the half with 3:57 play.
SU goalie Alyssa Rothman (Trooper, Pa./Methacton)
started the game and played the first half, finishing with three
saves. Abby Cohn (Branchburg,
N.J./Somerville) played the final 30 minutes and picked up
six saves.
The Crusaders are back in action on Saturday, March 29 when they
travel to Landmark Conference opponent Drew for a 3 p.m. game.
